Vegan bloggies, I have need of you!

As some may know, I’m planning to go vegan. For one week. This week. I am curious just to try it. Please, don’t think I’m just trying to be trendy or something. But I’m definitely curious.

However, here is my biggest concern: protein.

Yeah, protein, the macronutrient that launched a thousand veggie wars. For Joe and Jill, protein on a vegan diet probably isn’t a problem. However, I strength train. A lot. I try to hit at least 125 grams of protein every day.

I have a rice protein powder coming in tomorrow. But I’d prefer to get most of my protein from real food. I also do not just want to eat soy-everything. The soy industry freaks me out.

So, here are some whole foods I plan to eat a lot of or have access to:
- Black beans
- Kidney beans
- Chickpeas
- Lentils
- Nuts
- Nut butters
- Hemp milk
- Oat bran
- Whole wheat pitas

Any vegans have any good high protein recipes? Tips? Tricks?

Is shelling out for a box of seitan worth it?

I know tempeh is a soy product, but I’ve heard that it is better for you than tofu and other unfermented soy products. Is this true?

All concerns aside, I’m very excited to be vegan for a week. I am very curious to see how I feel after a week. Who knows!

  1. you can make your own seitan, as long as you have vital wheat gluten and some extra time before dinner. you can find the basic recipe through a google search, but watching this video (made by my sister’s friend from college) is much more amusing:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3O8LKmos8U
